Sneak Peek Video: Notion Ink Adam

You’ve seen the pictures, so here’s the exclusive video of the Notion Ink Adam from this weekend’s edition of Technoholik on ET NOW. We flew down to Hyderabad and caught up with the Notion Ink team just before they left for Barcelona to showcase the Android-based tablet tomorrow at the Mobile World Congress. Note that this product was “one engineering day short” but we aren’t complaining since we literally badgered them into giving us this sneak peak. The top panel over the screen was still a bit loose, so they took it off before booting the system.

While the camera placement could still change in the final product, the dimensions and hardware specs (see comparison with iPad) for both the Pixel Qi and regular LCD screen versions are now final. And don’t miss the comparison with my Macbook’s screen in direct sunlight. The Adam means business…

Piece of crap ,, PAINT APPS .. LETHARGIC TOUCH SENSITIVITY .. WINDOWS PLATFORM AND JUST ANOTHER COPY OF APPLE PRODUCT ...
  • mpatro
Hope you haven't seen the video or didn't read the spec or illiterate one. It clearly mentions that its on Android OS and also supports Ubuntu and google OS. If these words foreign to you then it is out of your reach to know the details.

Thank you Steve J for your comments
  • Vineet
It is a good alternative to Apple iPad. Now, you have a choice to buy this "Lethagic touch screen..Windows Platform and Just another copy of Apple product" or "The iPAD from Apple".

A choice is a welcome word for consumers. May the best serving product WIN!
  • shb117
i didn't know that there were indian trolls too.....
  • tarunschhabria
Well its amazing & could be an IPAD Killerin near future
  • praveenkrsanghi
these guys give a very nice feeling, I am really getting a feel like they can become a company like apple and Microsoft. best of luck all of you.
  • Its nice but apple too bigger brand to compete against and you have to do some serious marketing if you are even thinking about competing against the ipad
  • I am really proud of these guys. Really liked the back track pad and sensor to check the sunlight and adjust the screen accordingly. I would like to see full service(Books, Music, Software download) and not only they excel in the hardware section to give full competition to already established players (ASUS, HP and Apple)

    Proud to be an Indian

    looks lame.

My congrats to the young innovators. An excellent beginng to answer the oft repeated question "Where are the Indian iPods, Googles and Viagras?"They put together their heads to put the nation's head up. Younger generations of IITians and MBAs should derive inspiration from these leaders of technical innovation.
  • profpbssarma
Finally India srarted answering the question" Where are the Indian iPods, Googles and Viagras".
I Am truly proud of the young guys who put their heads together to lift up the heads of Indians.

Wonderful...I am thrilled and excited by the video of ADAM...It has quite a few advantage-feature wise compared to iPad, like battery power, screen clearity and camera option. The option of backside mouse is also a good and innovative idea...
Hope the performance of ADAM is up to the mark and than it will provide good compitition to the big guns in the markets.....
    HATs off TO the makers....
  • sparks_risha
wish you all the best adam . beat the ipad
  • vishalpatel310
u have done a very awesome job guys keep rocking and take India on the height of success.
  • Tablet PC's are definitely a hot item right now, and I am pleasantly surprised to find a product that is superior to the iPad in so many ways, yet coming from an unknown manufacturer. Now to get the price right, and to get the marketing that this product deserves to back it.
  • TCP333
AWESOME!! Can't wait to see how they price their really innovative device in the market and beat the competition! :D
  • sagarhatekar
Awesome! really proud of you guys. I liked the camera feature the most. Using Android which is an emerging robust platform was really a good idea! All the very best!!
  • dksfuz
It's too big to use a rear trackpad efficiently. It would make much more sense on a phone-sized to postcard-sized device where you could access the whole screen area 1:1 from behind while holding it.
  • name
But I think a rea "back" button for internet would be wonderful Makes use of the idle hand and wouldn't require the active hand to move unnecessarily
  • The rear trackpad is wonderful.

Before the iPad was introduced, I suspected that Apple would use two rear touch sensitive areas to allow users to type while gripping the pad, I thought that was what the rumors about a "surprising" input method meant.

Whether for cursor movement or the more advanced idea of text entry, using the back of a pad - where our fingers will be most of the time anyway - if such an obviously good idea. When you have a small screen, why obscure it with your hands?

I had also hoped that the iPad would use the Pixel Qi screen.

    Well done Notion Ink!

ADAM-The Scribe book.... Its the best. I think if they include a regular cell phone keyboard on the right and left thumb of the size of say Motrola W270, their prblem of keyboard will be solved completely. They can make it software based but of the size of traditional phone keyboard. As the ppl are already aware of how to text thru cell phones, this will be advantageous.

    Hi,

I am really proud of these guys who have shown time and again that we are one of the superpower in this sector in the world now. The only thing that concern me is that they will need to market the product in India as well not only in the US to give the benefits to us Indian as well.

I would surely like to have my hands on it some day.

Great work guys. I am really proud of your efforts and courage to break this new ground.

  • chandrashekharymulye
    Dear ipadkiller
Best done.I would like a small mobile phone in tablet.
  • sanjaypatawari
I just hope that the Indian government and the state governments give enuf incentives nad tax breaks to make this a sub-15000/ product on the selves! That wud go a long long way to promote this concept n in turn increase the literacy/BB penetration/business to the masses! For one, most of the Laptops in india r by25-40% cheaper in US!
  • girishjbhatia
Surely I see some company acquiring the product as we speak
  • SachinKB
Thanks for a better product, fellas! Worth promoting simply for the phenomenal cuts in energy consumption! Countries like Sweden would love to make the switch in bulk. You've thought of the green end of the market of course!
  • cintra
Looks really good! Hope it will have the full Google Experience apps..
  • Indianstar
awesome guys!!! does it support flash????
  • technoholik
Yup - and they claim MS Silverlight as well
  • prateekmohan1
    Greattttttttttt!
Add a Wi-fi/3G option... and we have the most desirable or rather Iresistable Tablet out there...
Wish Notion Inc. best of luck...
  • Rphilip
It is really great to have such a product being conceived and launched in india...it only makes our resolve more stronger and make us believe that we can create the wonders and nothing is impossible, and the coming generation will be ruled by Indians
  • rumapathy
price of 350-800US$ is un affordable for most of Indians
Theyoung genius must be very careful on pricing and follow chinese system to spread
the sale volumes with in the country first unlike all our so called bell weather soft ware giants
who crave for US $ earnings!! The indian market will be mind boggling billions and they should takle Tata motor path of supply /assemble factories in all states of India fot faster spread of tablets for Indians in hinder land for faster emergence of BB too so atht both will work complementary to each other. They can tie up with many ISPs as BB package for faster spreads. They can rope in young Entrepeanuers-fresh out of IIT/ IIMs to take up the assembly /manufacture of the units. This tablet is the answer to India 's literacy in >3.0L villages!! India will be a literate country in short timeby spread of tablet along with simputer
  • SJadhav
Looks interesting and certainly has more features than the average hardware out there. I would like one as soon as possible and would urge the folks at Notion Ink to launch it simultaneously in India.

Like someone earlier suggested; a 3G network ready feature will be useful.

Good work folks and good luck!
  • It looks awesome.
I hope they price it right($300 is great price for it)

Specs look great. It has got all what people were talking about was missing in iPad.
  • rishabh_asthana
Most excellent and innovative product i have seen till now coming out of India. Guys hats off to you for coming up with Adam.
I am sure going to buy it when ever it launches in India.
I have just one suggestions. Please put some beefy inbuilt storage (250+), also if possible please provide data access through 3G network.
Also the back track pad idea is neat.
  • maheshnayak
why not release in India at the same time its been released in US? Why India is left behind in release dates (by core Indian company) ?
  • mikegauba
Good job. The next challenge of course is marketing the product. The easiest way out is to license the technology to a large technology vendor. In this case you will not become Steve Jobs in this venture but more likely to become in your next

High Technology Marketing is a big challenge and is in fact a science. In case you decide to market it yourself, which I would encourage you to, you are highly likely to go wrong. But then that is also a wonderful learning experience. In case you are able to figure out the reason for your failure - your chances of becoming Steve Jobs in your next venture significantly increase

In case you want to become Steve Jobs in this venture only, I would give you a few tips

    1. The strong success that iPhone has enjoyed so far is because of the strong Apple brand that exudes innovation. It is otherwise a confused mass of protoplasm. It would not have had that level of success if it had been launched by Nokia, Sony or Samsung. Thus watch out.

    2. Your best bet is to learn from the success story of Blackberry - If you religiously follow it, you are less likely to go wrong.

I specialize in high technology marketing and have recently left Huawei Technologies as its CMO and prior to that was a professor at the Korea University Business School. I am from IIT Delhi and would be most happy to guide you through this challenge and can be contacted on mikegauba@gmail.com,
  • LordRobear
You sir are an idiot. Obviously you heard of them, and they have been featured in many magazines all over the world. They seem to be doing a fine job of marketing, and have created a lot of buzz for themselves. I would venture to guess more people have heard of the Adam then Huawei Technologies. Maybe go pitch yourself for a marketing job at Enron.
  • drkennethnoisewater
Something else to remember.. Apple's weak point is its orwellian control of its app store. Users gain some benefit from that, but they lose out from lack of choice and lack of developer interest (which is made up for by Apple's free and excellent toolchain).. Make this pad as easily upgradable as, say, the Firefox browser, and I'd be much more interested than I am with the iPad.

Also, front-facing webcam for skype videoconferencing is a doubleplusneed.
  • Certainly this one is going to rock the world.

Just a short note Abhimanyu I think your blog design is really looking normal and less impressive. I mean you know so many people so hire a one which can provide awesome design.
  • Thanks for the feedback. We literally put this blog up in a day flat, after getting the scoop for the TV show, so yup it's a work in progress. Suggestions/references would be welcome ;-)
  • ssagay
Excellent, making use of both hands.
  • varunm88
