Jolicloud will be moving from pre-beta to final this month, according to an announcement on their blog. This new version will be available in several languages, and distributed using BitTorrent.
The team has decided to switch from Mozilla Prism to Google Chrome as their browser rendering engine, which they claim will provide a faster browsing experience on ARM netbooks and older Atoms, and the ability to render iPhone and Android HTML5 apps natively.
The new Jolicloud will also introduce a desktop mode adapted for larger screens running off nettops, and will support every Intel based netbook platform, “from the oldest right up to the brand new Pine Trail platform including the Diamondville and Menlow platforms, as well as NVIDIA ION and Broadcom Crystal HD graphic cards”
Pine trail netbooks will also be able to do full HD 1080p, which in Windows “requires a specific piece of software to be purchased.” That should be a good enough incentive for netbook users to make the switch and run Jollicloud in a dual boot configuration.
Our previous entry on Jolicloud should explain why we are so excited about it.
